MARK HAMILTON - MANAGING DIRECTOR : BBSC, NZCQS

After a stint as a labourer, Mark joined Fletcher Development and Construction as a Quantity Surveyor cadet.  With Fletcher Construction Co. backing he went on to complete a Building Science degree followed by a period of self employment that lead to a senior management role with a national building contractor. The directors of Alexander Construction approached Mark in 1998 to take over the helm.  In 2003 Mark became the majority shareholder and Managing Director. He is proud of the achievements the company has made since its small beginnings and enjoys the strong culture created from a consistent and committed workforce, exciting building opportunities and the loyalty inherent in traditional building companies.

JO MURPHY -- QUANTITY SURVEYOR : NZCQS

Jo joined the team at Alexander Construction in 1998, working on the Splash Planet Project. Since then she has enjoyed the challenges of many projects including the National Aquarium of New Zealand and Napier's Ocean Spa Complex.  Jo is a qualified Quantity Surveyor with previous experience working for another local building company, subcontractors and a professional quantity surveying practice.  Jo enjoys being part of the Alexander Construction team both in the office and on site.  She strives to achieve the “same team” philosophy with all parties in the contract.

ROBBIE GIBSON- - PROJECT MANAGER: NZCB

Robbie joined the construction industry on leaving school in 1973 and gained his NZCB.  He moved to Alexander Construction in 1986 upon the retirement of one of the founding partners, Cedric Alexander. During his thirty years of building experience Robbie has seen many changes in construction methods and contracting practices. Since starting as a cadet he has had a hand in many high profile contracts, including project managing the award-winning Pettigrew Green Arena in 2003. He enjoys the industry tremendously, including its challenges and the people who work within it.

TROY BRIGGS - PROJECT MANAGER: NZCAD

Prior to joining Alexander Construction, Troy studied NZCAD & CAD and then spent 14 years working in many of the diverse fields of the building industry, including six years as a self-employed building contractor.  Troy enjoys the challenge of the ever changing aspect of the building industry and is proud to be a member of the progressive and innovative team at Alexander Construction.

THERESA JONES - QUANTITY SURVEYOR: NZCQS

Theresa is a qualified Quantity Surveyor who gained her NZCQS whilst working for Powrie Gray Michie and then spent four years working for a local building company. She freelanced for professional quantity surveying practices while raising a family, joining Alexander Construction in 2002 and looking after the majority of tendering/estimating. Theresa enjoys the huge variety of designs she encounters and the challenges associated with them.

JOHN SNADDEN - Health and safety and apprentice SUPERVISOR

John started his building career with a Carpentry and Joinery Apprenticeship with RG & C Alexander in 1963. On completion of his apprenticeship he left for his OE, spending five years working on building projects in Australia and New Guinea. John rejoined RG & C Alexander on his return to NZ and soon progressed to Foreman. He has a wealth of experience in all aspects of building including architecturally designed homes, renovations, shop fit outs and both heavy and light commercial. Some of John's accomplishments include Splash Planet, Fountain Court Motel, Deco City Motor Lodge and the Marineland Grandstand. John's ability, experience, craftsmanship and interpersonal skills enable him to acheive great results and maintain excellent relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors and staff. As our Health and Safety and Apprentice Supervisor, the benefit of John's wealth of experience is felt throughout the company.

CI-ANNE MCNAUGHTEN – OFFICE ACCOUNTANT

After three years of traveling the world Ci-Anne settled back into the Bay and a career in accounts administration, gaining valuable experience with several local companies before joining the team at Alexander Construction in 2006. Her wicked sense of humour quickly dispelled any quips about accountants and personalities as she set about streamlining the administration side of the business. When not crunching numbers, Ci Anne’s green fingers can be found tending the office’s previously neglected plant life, which has perked up considerably since her arrival.

CHRISTINE HENRY - RECEPTIONIST

Christine Henry believes in taking the opportunity to learn whenever it is offered and as a result brought a keen understanding of accounting and administration systems with her when she joined our administration team in early 2007. Christine’s career in frontline administration had seen her work in a cross-section of industries including forestry, property management and stocks when an opportunity arose to return to Hawke’s Bay after several years in Rotorua, Auckland and overseas.

Office Administrator

With a background in administering international golf courses and five star restaurants, Wendy Friedner couldn’t have been more suited to the glamorous construction industry.  Wendy grew up in Hawke’s Bay but has spent most of her adult life traveling through and working in Europe, Australia and the US.  She returned to the Bay to raise her family and joined the administration team at Alexander Construction to look after our payroll and accounts payable and receivable in June 2007.

BRUCE SALISBURY - SENIOR FOREMAN

Bruce joined Alexander Construction in 2004 following five years as Foreman with another local commercial builder. After serving his apprenticeship between 1969 and 1975 Bruce worked in the Wellington area on commercial construction. He then spent four years building houses in Masterton before rejoining the commercial sector and moving to Hawke's Bay in 1983. Bruce has a wide range of knowledge and experience including two years in civil construction (bridge building) and five years as Managing Director of a Precast Concrete Manufacturer. Bruce sees Alexander Construction's strengths as the professional and friendly way all projects are approached and delivered.

GARY TONKS - SENIOR FOREMAN

Gary served his apprenticeship with R.G & C Alexander Ltd between 1985 and 1989. Gaining top marks in Hawke's Bay for his Trade Certificate he then acheived Advanced Trade Certificate in 1990. Gary has been leading hand on many projects including the Fountain Court Motel, Deco City Motor Lodge and Rudolph Steiner's Katherine Laing Building in Hastings. He was promoted to Senior Foreman in 1999 and quickly gained respect for his knowledge and experience in heavy commercial construction. The cantilevered floorslab for the Napier Girls High School Technology Block and the Pettigrew Green Arena are just two examples of challenging projects undertaken by Gary.

GRAEME TAYLOR -  FOREMAN

After forty years in the building industry Graeme brings a variety of experience to the team at Alexander Construction. Graeme started in the trade at the age of 15, serving his apprenticeship on housing work before spending 10 years as a self employed roofing contractor. Graeme has been with Alexander Construction since 1986 and enjoys the wide variety of projects under his supervision. From architecturally designed homes, including the rebuilding of Cedric and Joan Alexander's home after a massive gas explosion, to the Singapore High Commission on the side of a steep hill in Wellington, Graeme thrives on the challenges he is offered.

JODY DALLAS - FOREMAN

Jody has spent 23 years in the building industry starting with his apprenticeship in Invercargill. He spent five years in England and the USA where he gained experience in commercial and restoration work. Jody joined Alexander Construction in 1998 and has enjoyed the variety and challenges that each project brings. Building architecturally designed houses is Jody's passion and his attention to detail is evident on all his projects, including Grant House, an award winning home built in 1999. Jody enjoys the open-minded and progressive nature of Alexander Construction.

MALCOLM GREENWOOD – SENIOR FOREMAN

Malcolm’s promotion to Foreman in 1998 marked an impressive rise through the ranks for someone whose career in the construction industry began by topping the inaugural pre-apprentice course at Taradale Polytechnic in 1989.  Malcolm’s confidence and ability and a key role in the Splash Planet project led to his first major contract in the position of foreman, the refurbishment of ANZ Taupo’s premier suite. After a period overseas working mainly in the apartment sector Malcolm returned to the company and was given his biggest challenge to date – Napier’s West Quay project. A most competent tradesmen and a natural, well-rounded foreman, Malcolm’s passion for the industry is reflected in his considerable achievements at Alexander Construction.

KARL JOHANSEN - FOREMAN

Karl Johansen loves the challenges provided by the construction industry and says the ever-changing environment ensures he learns something new every day. His quest for gaining knowledge and experience has seen him placed on many high profile contracts since joining Alexander’s in 2000, including The National Aquarium of New Zealand and Pettigrew Green Arena. When Alexander Construction undertook the West Quay Apartment project in 2005, Karl was given his first building as Foreman. He says the knowledge gained from colleagues during the large-scale development has served him well in the projects he has been involved with since and he is looking forward to maintaining the positive relationships with clients, consultants and sub contractors gained during the process.

BRAD HYDE - PROJECT SUPERVISOR

Brad Hyde (Ropey) entered the building industry through the EIT pre-trade carpentry course in 1999. In 2000 he joined Alexander Construction and began his apprenticeship. After achieving his National Certificate in Carpentry in 2004 an ongoing injury prompted the decision to re-train for a construction management role within the company. Ropey spent the following two years in Wellington studying full-time to gain a Diploma in Construction Technology and National Diploma in Construction Management. Ropey returned to us in 2006 as a Building Cadet and now  works closely with the Project Management team gaining valuable experience in all aspects of construction management.

GLEN STEVENSON – FOREMAN

Glen’s association with Alexander Construction began with work experience while attending the pre-apprenticeship course at EIT Hawke’s Bay in 1994. His workmanship and natural aptitude were noticed by senior foremen on the EIT Auditorium project and several Heinz-Watties jobs, and he was encouraged to grow his career with the company. After completing his apprenticeship, his skill and ability were put to the test with two high profile projects – the National Aquarium and the 2001 hill-side construction of the Singapore High Commission in Wellington – a project that remains one of Glen’s most challenging to date. In 2002 Glen took his OE, which included a stint as a maintenance carpenter for Ireland’s largest facilities management company. On his return he continued his relationship with Alexanders, running several school jobs and doing fit out work.

Kevin Christieson - yard supervisor

When Kevin Christieson joined Alexander Construction in 2006 he brought with him more than 34 years’ experience in the building industry. As our Yard Supervisor, Kevin provides a key support role in our operation by ensuring all yard-based building materials and company plant and equipment are available, compliant and in good working order when required. An enthusiastic follower of trucking and aircraft, Kevin’s other passions are family and the community, with many years spent contributing to Lions International and committee work. When he’s not flat out in our Yard, he’s flat out in his own - enjoying home handyman tasks and DIY.

Mike Dymond - site supervisor

Mike Dymond loves high profile jobs and concrete – and in more than 20 years in the building industry, he has worked with plenty of both. Mike completed an apprenticeship with Wellington Company J&P Batty Ltd working mainly on commercial and multi-storey contracts. Large-scale jobs such as Queens Gate Lower Hutt, Kmart Porirua and Pak n Save Paraparaumu provided plenty of learning curves and an appreciation of what can be achieved with copious amounts of concrete. In the mid 1990’s Mike moved to Hawke’s Bay and in 1999 he joined the team at Alexander Construction. Ironically, one of his first jobs for the company was the manufacture of pre-cast concrete beams for the Hastings - Napier motorway bridge! His desire for high profile jobs has also been satisfied with placement on the National Aquarium and heated salt-water pool contracts and the yearlong West Quay apartment build.
