‘One of the largest residential developments undertaken in Hawke's Bay...’ Client Globe Holdings/Alexander Lachlan Ltd Contract period 21 months Date Completed December 2006   Approximate cost $33 million Scope of work The construction of 103 apartments within four x five storey buildings, including a three storey carpark building, pool complex, gym and restaurant. Highlights Some of the construction methods utilised (screw piles, polystyrene blockwork and spaced dycore) were new to our company but proved to be quite successful. Two of the buildings were handed over ahead of programme and Auckland-based architects Craig Craig Moller commented that the quality was some of the best they had inspected. Challenges, problems and solutions  For this project Alexander Construction formed a joint venture with the developers (Globe Holdings) and construction management company Lachlan Construction. A real focus on programme and communication systems was necessary to ensure that the project was driven without quality being compromised. With 14,370m2 of apartments, achieving the completion dates was always going to be a huge ask of our local resources, but with the guidance of our joint venture partners we learnt that we have the people and sub contractors available to successfully tackle any sized project on offer in Hawke's Bay.
