SKOPE OF WORK To build a two storey 30 unit motel complex that would achieve a five star Qualmark rating and reflect Napier’s unique Art Deco heritage.

CHALLENGES We redesigned the PC panels to suit the tight construction programme and to eliminate an expensive roof framing detail. The building happened to be sited on top of an old rubbish dump, necessitating the excavation of the surface, laying of ground cloth and recompacting with imported fill. This was done earlier than normal to provide access for heavy cranes and concrete trucks.

HIGHLIGHTS Completed on time and within budget and achieving 5 star Qualmark rating - the first motel in Hawke's Bay to do so.
